Having a puppy in the house has definitely kept us on our toes lately. You always think a puppy is going to be cute and perfect and just a bundle of joy, which at times it is. But we hadn't really remembered what having a puppy was REALLY like...constantly running outside to pee so they won't have an accident on the floor, teaching them to sit and stay, playing with them when they are hyper, playing with them when they aren't hyper, waking up at 3:30 in the morning because the puppy is crying and needs to go to the bathroom. As fun as its been having our new puppy, it's also been really hard.
We have had her now for one week and my sleep as been completely demolished because I am awake throughout the night taking care of Daisy. She is still learning to control her bladder which everyday is getting better, but during the nights we are still having a problem. She hasn't been wetting the bed, but she will cry until you take her out and apparently I am a lighter sleeper than my husband because I seem to always be the one to wake up and take her out. Last night was the first night she didn't wake up in the middle of the night which was wonderful. I actually went to bed early, but I woke up early because I kept thinking I was going to hear her cry and would have to get up before my alarm clock and spend the morning with her. That of course didn't happen, but I was awake non-the-less. I have felt like a zombie this past week. Having interupted sleep is worse then just going to bed late. And even though I got more sleep last night than I have in a week, it almost feels worse, like I need so many more house to catch up on. Not to mention it isn't all that great for my patience level, but I am working on that one :)
I love having Daisy in our lives. She makes us laugh constantly has such a personality and is very obedient. It is just harder than I remember when I was a little kid. But that is probably because my parents were the ones to wake up during the night and constantly take the dog out to pee and train them and basically do everything. Thanks mom and dad :)
As of one week she has learned to sit and stay. She hasn't mastered it 100% except for when there is a treat in our hand, but she is getting there. She sleeps during the day which is great because it gives me time to get things done. And I know I am not a mom yet, and im sure you moms out there will probably roll your eyes at me saying this, but I imagine this is somewhat what having a baby is like. At least this is closest I have come to being for responsible for someone other than myself that needs constant attention and supervision. And I know a puppy doesn't compare to your own flesh and blood but I'm sure you get where im coming from with this one.
Here are a few pictures of our adorable munchkin when she is being sweet and loving. I need to get some pictures of when she is hyper and crazy!
Until Then,
Cheers,
Kristin
